The results for Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat Elections 2017 are out and Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) has overruled the states but by meager numbers. During the exit poll, it was quite a tensed situation and difficult to foresee the upcoming ruling party. Nonetheless, the efforts made during the campaigns have resulted in big wins.

Post the result declaration, a parliamentary board meeting was held of the winning party, where our Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi tweeted “The victory in Gujarat is special. Starting from 1989, people of Gujarat have been blessing BJP in every Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha election. It is an honour to be serving Gujarat for so many years. We will continue to work for Gujarat’s growth”

Just a throwback at the campaigns done by the two major leading parties in the states, it was quite evident on the social media platforms that it was going to be a tough struggle. During the election campaigns in Gujarat by Indian National Congress, Shri Rahul Gandhi had tweeted questions which directed to the opposition party asking about their record for past 22 years. His first tweet question was among the top most responded tweets by the masses with 6864 replies, 11372 retweets and 27837 likes.

“22 सालों का हिसाब, गुजरात मांगे जवाब। गुजरात के हालात पर प्रधानमंत्रीजी सेपहला सवाल: 2012 में वादा किया कि 50 लाख नए घर देंगे। 5 साल में बनाए4.72 लाख घर। प्रधानमंत्रीजी बताइए कि क्या ये वादा पूरा होने में 45 साल औरलगेंगे?”

It was also observed in others tweets by Rahul Gandhi mentioning about the use of language for his party, where he cited “BJP and PM routinely use filthy language to attack the Congress party. The Congress has a different culture and heritage. I do not appreciate the tone and language used by Mr Mani Shankar Aiyer to address the PM. Both the Congress and I expect him to apologise for what he said” received the highest response with 6,194 replies, 11,147 retweets, 29,748 likes.

On contrary, not only looking at the engagement over the tweets but BJP government also negated these questions and they were tuned into promotion through the rallies in various cities. In response to some of the tweets by Modi reflected upon the behavioural patterns of the party. He mentioned “Negative politics of the Congress isn’t cutting ice with the people of Gujarat. People are fully aware of the divisive tactics of Congress and have terrible memories of Congress rule, which was characterised by misgovernance and lawlessness.”

“I am devoting my life for the betterment of crores of people of Gujarat and India. Have been fortunate to always get your blessings. I am sure you will continue to bless us in these elections too by voting for BJP”, a tweet by Shri Narendra Modi received the maximum response with 3,504 replies, 8,539 retweets and 38,951 likes.

The above quoted tweets were some of the most discussed and interacted tweets of Shri Narendra Modi and Shri Rahul Gandhi during the campaign by the public. These had the largest response rate with most likes, retweets and replies.
