Interesting fact- 18 km's south of Balasore is the Indian Ballistic Missile Defence Program's integrated test range. Many well known missiles such as Nag, Brahmos and Agni Missile etc have been developed here by the Defence Research and Development Organisation. We were to visit the University of Calicut for our first set of workshops in Kerala. Dr Shyjan Davis, professor of Economics at the university said that it was important for students across Kerala to know the necessity of taking safety precautions on the various social media platforms. We travelled to Kerala from Coimbatore on Saturday morning, getting our plan in place for the workshops that were to be held there. The topography in south India is absolutely stunning. Our Social Surfing journey through the country has given us a once in a lifetime opportunity to experience seeing India in the best way possible. Interacting with people from all states has taught us a lot. It was Day 6 and we were at Vimala College, Thrissur. A total of 108 girls attended from the Departments of Economics and Social Work. To see a group of students engaging and participating with enthusiasm makes us happy like nothing else does. Most of the crowd was active on Facebook and participated wholeheartedly in the activities of the workshop. A lot of…

Social Surfing 3.0 Day 5 Workshop in JKKN Institution

Social Surfing
Today was our last set of workshops at JKKN university, Tamil Nadu. The team was to head onward to Kerala for another set of workshops. Among the trainers, Arnika and Vikram are a dynamic duo and together bring great energy to the workshops. Today's crowd of students was really exuberant and it took a firm voice to handle them. Arnika knows exactly how to handle crowds and did a brilliant job at directing their attention to focus on what was going on in the workshop. As always, our focus today was to encourage our students to express themselves freely in whatever language they felt comfortable. We involved some of the faculty as well in the activities today and this worked brilliantly in encouraging the students to participate more. Arnika was…

Social surfing 3.0 is now beginning to gain momentum. We've had our share of warm up and are ready to race to the finish line. The most important way to ensure we get there is to keep the passion alive. The best part about a team that enjoys what they do is that the work becomes a lot more easier and when a mammoth task is ahead of you, the process doesn't feel slow, there's no drudgery. One of our aims in this phase is to encourage our participants to express themselves and do so in whatever language they feel comfortable. We believe being able to talk in English really doesn't have much to do with intelligence. Celebrating uniqueness is so important. We conducted 3 workshops today and the teams…
